YouthTalk.ca Beta

YouthTalk.ca Beta will be released in January 2011. Between now and December 31, 2010 Youth between the ages of 13 and 24 can apply to become a founding member. Space will be limited to 50 youth; the Lead Facilitation Team will review all of the applications and select members based upon two factors: 1) their objective for joining and 2) equitable representation (geographic, age-range, and visible minority representation).

Selected founding members will be invited by email to create an account at YouthTalk.ca by January 8, 2011 and will begin bylaw discussions right through to January 31, 2011. During this time, founding members may invite up to 5 of their friends to join YouthTalk.

Founding members will assist in the creation of the bylaws of YouthTalk and will have an opportunity to be part of the founding International Assembly. Those who are elected by the founding members to sit on the International Assembly will serve a 1-year interim term – ending March 31, 2012.

On February 1, 2011 YouthTalk will officially launch to the public, the provisional bylaws will come into effect, and the countdown to the elections will begin. Elections for all of the positions outlined in this document will be held on March 26, 2011.

About

Pushing beyond student engagement and into student empowerment, YouthTalk! provides students with a unique opportunity to formally advise decision makers. Through open discussions, students share their opinions on issues important to them and brainstorm ideas as to what they feel could be done to raise the bar in the area of student engagement and close the gap in the area of student achievement.
